True-cost checker
The headline fee is only part of the cost. Enter what each provider quotes you for the same amount and see what you really lose against the latest daily mid-market rate. Nothing you type leaves your device.
Total cost = fee on top + the leones lost against the mid-market rate, shown as a percentage of the amount sent. Example rows are illustrative, not real quotes. Mid-market rates come from open.er-api.com and are indicative.
Sending EUR from Germany
Sending from Germany usually means paying in euros, which many providers quote competitively. Remember that the euro rate is shared by every eurozone country, so a provider’s German page can look the same as its French or Dutch one but offer different payout options.
How to pay for the transfer
From Germany you can usually fund a transfer with a SEPA bank transfer, a direct debit, a debit card or a credit card.
SEPA bank transfer or direct debit is usually cheaper than a card. German banks may require two-factor approval in the bank app to confirm the payment.
Who regulates your provider
Money transfer providers serving Germany are overseen by BaFin (the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority) or an EEA passporting regulator. Before your first transfer, find the company on the regulator’s public register and confirm it is authorised. If you cannot find it, choose another provider.
What to do before you send
- Check that the provider’s licence covers Germany. Many EU providers operate under a single licence from another EEA country, which is normal.
- Pay by SEPA transfer rather than card where the option exists.
- Keep the recipient’s name exactly as on their ID. A mismatch is the most common reason a payout is held.
Typical amounts people check with the tool: €100, €200, €500. Change the amount in the checker to match yours.

Questions from Germany senders
Can I send from Germany to a Sierra Leone bank account?
Often yes, but the supported banks and speed depend on the provider. Cash pickup and mobile money are usually faster and more widely available than bank deposit.
Do I pay German tax on sending money home?
Sending gifts or family support is not usually taxed as such, but gifts can have inheritance and gift-tax rules above allowances. Ask a Steuerberater if you send large sums regularly.
How do I compare providers when sending from Germany?
Get a leones quote for the same EUR amount from each provider, noting the fee on top. Enter both numbers in the checker. It measures the total cost against the latest daily mid-market EUR-to-NLe rate so a fee-free offer cannot hide a weak rate.

How we work. Globe2Me is not paid by any provider named on this page and does not move money. We rank options by how you can measure their real cost, not by who pays us. If we add affiliate links in future they will be labelled and rankings will not change. Fees, rates and coverage change often: always confirm the final leones amount on the provider’s own checkout before you pay. This page is general information, not financial advice.
