True-cost checker
The headline fee is only part of the cost. Enter what each provider quotes you for the same amount and see what you really lose against the latest daily mid-market rate. Nothing you type leaves your device.
Total cost = fee on top + the leones lost against the mid-market rate, shown as a percentage of the amount sent. Example rows are illustrative, not real quotes. Mid-market rates come from open.er-api.com and are indicative.
Sending USD from the United States
Families in the US often send on a schedule, for school fees, rent and medical bills at home. The dollar is widely used in Sierra Leone’s markets, so small differences in the rate you are quoted add up over a year.
How to pay for the transfer
From the United States you can usually fund a transfer with an ACH bank debit, a debit card or a credit card.
ACH bank debit is normally cheaper than a debit card, and a credit card is usually the most expensive way to fund a transfer because of cash-advance rules. Bank-funded transfers can be slower to clear on the first send.
Who regulates your provider
Money transfer providers serving the United States are overseen by FinCEN and your state’s money transmitter regulator, with consumer protection from the CFPB. Before your first transfer, find the company on the regulator’s public register and confirm it is authorised. If you cannot find it, choose another provider.
What to do before you send
- US rules give you the right to a cancellation window on many remittances (usually 30 minutes). Ask the provider before you send if a mistake is possible.
- Check the receipt: US providers must show the exchange rate, fees and the amount that will be received.
- Funding by bank account (ACH) rather than card often lowers the total cost.
Typical amounts people check with the tool: $100, $200, $500. Change the amount in the checker to match yours.

Questions from US senders
Do US providers have to show the exchange rate and fees?
Yes. The CFPB remittance rule requires a disclosure of the amount, fees, exchange rate and the amount the recipient will get, plus information on your cancellation and error-resolution rights.
What is the best way to send $200 from the US?
There is no single answer, because rates move daily. Run the same $200 through three providers on the same day, enter the leones each one quotes in the checker and choose the lowest total cost for the payout method your recipient needs.
How do I compare providers when sending from the United States?
Get a leones quote for the same USD amount from each provider, noting the fee on top. Enter both numbers in the checker. It measures the total cost against the latest daily mid-market USD-to-NLe rate so a fee-free offer cannot hide a weak rate.

How we work. Globe2Me is not paid by any provider named on this page and does not move money. We rank options by how you can measure their real cost, not by who pays us. If we add affiliate links in future they will be labelled and rankings will not change. Fees, rates and coverage change often: always confirm the final leones amount on the provider’s own checkout before you pay. This page is general information, not financial advice.
