True-cost checker
The headline fee is only part of the cost. Enter what each provider quotes you for the same amount and see what you really lose against the latest daily mid-market rate. Nothing you type leaves your device.
Total cost = fee on top + the leones lost against the mid-market rate, shown as a percentage of the amount sent. Example rows are illustrative, not real quotes. Mid-market rates come from open.er-api.com and are indicative.
What your recipient needs
- An active Orange Money or Africell Money wallet registered in their own name (or the name you enter).
- The exact wallet number. A wrong digit sends the money to someone else and is hard to recover.
- A phone with signal, and a way to cash out: a mobile money agent, an ATM that supports wallets, or spending directly from the wallet.
Before you send
- Check the provider supports the wallet network your recipient uses (Orange or Africell). Not all providers cover both.
- Confirm the recipient’s wallet limits. Daily and monthly caps apply and can block a large transfer.
- Send a small test amount first if this is a new wallet.
- Run the leones quote through the checker. Mobile-money apps that advertise zero fees usually make their money in the rate.
Cashing out
- Agents may charge a withdrawal fee, so ask your recipient what they pay locally.
- Cashing out in a large town is usually quicker than in a remote area, where agents can run low on cash.
- Spending or sending airtime from the wallet avoids the cash-out fee.
Compare the real cost first
Whatever the payout method, the same rule applies: ask each provider for the leones your recipient will receive for the same amount, then use the checker above to see the total cost.

Frequently asked questions
How fast is a mobile money transfer to Sierra Leone?
Most arrive within minutes once the sending provider has cleared your payment. A first transfer or a large amount can take longer because of verification.
Can my recipient be charged to receive?
Receiving into the wallet is normally free, but cashing out with an agent can carry a fee that the recipient pays. Ask before you send.

How we work. Globe2Me is not paid by any provider named on this page and does not move money. We rank options by how you can measure their real cost, not by who pays us. If we add affiliate links in future they will be labelled and rankings will not change. Fees, rates and coverage change often: always confirm the final leones amount on the provider’s own checkout before you pay. This page is general information, not financial advice.
